Fuel for … firing fossil fuels
The UN released its highly anticipated IPCC report this week. The New York Times summarized the report's conclusion by writing that "Earth is likely to cross a critical threshold for global warming within the next decade, and nations will need to make an immediate and drastic shift away from fossil fuels to prevent the planet from overheating dangerously beyond that level."
The need for an "immediate and drastic shift away from fossil fuels" to save the planet just so happens to match Blue Planet Alliance's exact mission.
Our sister organization, Blue Planet Foundation (which, like us, was founded by Henk Rogers) played a key role in convening stakeholders to drive the climate ambition in Hawaii — leading it to become the first U.S. state to legislatively mandate a transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045.
Now Blue Planet Alliance is working to effect similar legislative mandates in island countries around the world — in other words, trying to get them to ditch fossil fuels, perfectly aligned with the most important recommendation of the IPCC report.
The UN itself is clearly behind our mission, and we are one of the few organizations specifically dedicated to helping governments transition to legislative solutions toward clean energy. And we already have Blue Planet Climate Agreements with two UN Member States: Tonga and Tuvalu.
We hope this can catalyze action to get other countries onboard.
