Tonga Leads the way
The UN’s COP27 conference in Egypt was fruitful for Blue Planet Alliance, as we debuted our Blue Planet Climate Agreement. The Agreement is a pledge of cooperation between our nonprofit organization and governments that announce their intention to transition to 100% renewable energy by 2045.
The very first government to sign was the Kingdom of Tonga, whose Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti, Minister for Finance, signed the Agreement with our Founder, Henk Rogers, last month.
Just this week, Tonga posted news about the signing on their official Finance Ministry website (see image above). We hope this news will alert more countries — particularly island nations — about the value of transitioning to 100% renewable energy. Not only in terms of cost savings (many islands spend billions of dollars every year importing dirty energy), but also for the planet and helping to keep global average temperatures from rising.
