BPA 2024 Annual Report
In 2024, Blue Planet Alliance continued our critical work to make the planet more inhabitable, sustainable, and resilient to the negative impacts of climate change.
This is more important than ever, as the political climate has become less friendly to our efforts.
This past year, we welcomed 21 island countries and territories and six U.S. states to Hawaii to demonstrate to them the success we had helping the Aloha State become the first U.S. state to mandate a transition to 100% renewable energy. Yes, that’s right: Hawaii must — by law — be 100% renewable by 2045.
By doing so, Hawaii will enjoy the benefits of the Three E’s:
It will be more Energy independent (no longer relying on external sources for its energy)
It will have more Economic power (no more spending billions for fossil fuels)
And it will be more Existentially secure (no more contributing to the islands’ demise)
We also had a full calendar of workshops, seminars, speeches, and other events in which we used our convening power to help island communities around the world. Islands are the most vulnerable to — and the least responsible for — the negative impacts of climate change. That’s why BPA remains committed to helping make sure we share what we’ve learned in nearly two decades of climate activism with island leaders, to make them better positioned to survive, and to make sure no one is left behind by 2030.
