One more country has answered Blue Planet Alliance’s call to transition to 100% renewable energy. The Kingdom of Tonga yesterday announced that it would be making the switch away from dirty energy and to clean, renewable resources, by 2045.

A near death experience following his success in bringing Tetris to the global stage made him re-evaluate his impact on the world and spurred him to found the Blue Planet Alliance! His organization works with countries and islands across the world to secure commitments to 100% renewable energy by 2045!

The UN Ocean Conference in Lisbon took place this week, an effort to help better regulate the water that covers 71% of the planet’s surface.

This coming week, the 2nd UN High-Level Oceans Conference will take place in Lisbon — co-hosted by the Portugal and Kenya governments — and Blue Planet Alliance will be there, sponsoring, participating in and attending a number of important events. These events are aligned with BPA’s mission to inspire and facilitate island countries to legislatively mandate transitions to 100% renewable energy.

One thing I never do is litter. No matter how small or big the rubbish I have, I’ve never thrown it on the ground. I chew gum practically everywhere I go and the little tin-foil packaging for the gum stick is something I don’t just dispose improperly. If I’m unable to find a trash bin near me at the time, I usually insert the packaging inside my pocket. Sometimes I forget to get rid of it, but by the end of the day when I return home, I empty my pockets for my personal belongings and when I find that little rubbish, I throw it away in the trash.

This past week, people from all over the world came together to recognize World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8) for a mid-year block of awareness for the planet. Both days are recognized by the United Nations as critical social awareness days that bring a focus on issues related to the natural world…
